Bio

From a very young age, Fabienne Good has been interested in the arts. Having grown-up as a first-generation Canadian, Swiss-German was the main language spoken in the household. It wasn’t until Fabienne attended kindergarten that she realized that she didn’t speak the same language as the other children. This didn’t bother her all that much, as she just drew pictures and somehow communicated with the other children that way. In about grade one, journal entries consisted more of drawings than writing…and even when there was writing, it didn’t make sense, as it was something Fabienne was probably supposed to copy from the blackboard, and well, no one knew that her eye sight wasn’t 20/20 at that time!

Fabienne eventually got glasses and learned a bit of English, but that didn’t stop her from keeping up the artwork, and she was sure to spend hours and hours working on artwork to submit at the local fall fairs, illustrate the farm pedigree papers for her father or make a master piece out of a title page even if it was for a math project. Whenever there was a way that she could use her artistic talent, she did so with full force.

After completing her Ontario Secondary School Diploma, Fabienne followed her dream and went to the Ontario Collegeof Art and Design. Throughout her four years at OCAD, Fabienne took as many random and diverse courses as she could possibly fit into her schedule. She went all through the various areas the school offered ranging from Design, Integrated Media, Photography, Printmaking, Textiles and Drawing & Painting.

During the summer, Fabienne would find interesting places to spend the summer working, once it was in the remote countryside outside of Caledon, and another time it was in the cultural metropolis of Zurich, Switzerland. No matter where she was working or traveling with a backpack, she always acquired more and more inspiration for her artistic and creative mind.

After completing her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Ontario College of Art and Design, she took part in several shows before heading off to Australia for a year for another big culture shock and more inspiration!

As one could imagine, this constant change of habitat led to many different kinds of artistic practices and ideas. Fabienne’s portfolio ranges from pieces such as culturally-based screenprinted wall hangings, artwork as fashion, a vast collection of photographs, hand-bound books, tablecloths and much more. Have a look for yourself!
